My overall time wasn’t my best 5K, but I was still pretty proud of myself for getting out there on a Saturday after a long week of wrangling children. After we crossed the finish line we had a chance to take a picture running over home plate. I’m not even close to home plate in it and I just look silly.

From what I’ve read about this program, it’s based out of Boston, which is why there is a Florida race – at the Red Sox Spring Training center! JetBlue Park is a fairly new facility (I don’t know, I’m not big on sportsballs) and is kind of surrounded by a school and some office buildings. Since its founding, Home Base has provided clinical care and support for more than 21,000 veterans across the country. The annual Run to Home Base, an event to raise awareness for the "invisible wounds" in returning military veterans and service members, celebrated its 10th anniversary Saturday. Has been providing road race timing, management, and computer services throughout New England and beyond since the early 1980s. From the summit of Mt. Washington to the starts of the New York City Marathon, we have timed and scored thousands of races including road races, cross country meets, triathlons and biathlons, bicycle and canoe/kayak events.

Your participation and support is crucial to Home Base, in being able to provide world-class care and support to our Veterans and Military Families – all at no cost to them. The event benefits Home Base, a program run by the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital. The program was founded by Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner following the organization's second visit to Walter Reed Medical Center after being honored at the White House in 2008 for the team's 2007 World Series title. The Run to Home Base is Home Base’s signature fundraising event, raising over $26 million to date. Thanks to generous sponsors, 100% of proceeds to the 2023 Run to Home Base go directly toward treating these brave warriors and their families. Okay, first, I totally know what you mean about how some races make it SUPER obvious that diet/hydration play a key role in running.
Military suicides have increased 20% since the onset of the pandemic, with nearly 20 Veterans losing their lives to suicide each day. Years and Running
It’s an inspiring event which has the full commitment of Daymark’s employees. For the 4th consecutive year, Daymark was a corporate sponsor. Held before a Red Sox vs. Yankees game at Fenway Park, the ceremony recognized veterans and military families who have benefited from Home Base, first responder champions, community and national partners and Home Base staff.

A total of 2,464 participants from 41 states raised $2.3 million in support of Home Base’s mission to heal the invisible wounds of war for veterans and their families. Included in the 2,464 participants were more than 700 veterans, active duty, guard and reserve service members; 88 participants who raised $2,500 or more individually; and year participants. Last Saturday I ran my first race of the year, as I posted in my races for the new year. It was a 5K benefiting the Run to Home Base organization that helps veterans and their families.

The 9K run began outside of Fenway Park, Yawkey Way, travels around Boston and then ends crossing home plate inside Boston’s Fenway Park. It was a bit too hot for me, so my running felt more like a crawl……but I still had a lot of fun. More than 2,500 people, including nearly 300 active duty service members, took part in the 9K run and 5K charity run and walk, which starts and ends at Fenway Park. On July 27, 2019, Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program. Hosted its 10th annual Run to Home Base presented by New Balance 5K/9K fundraiser.

My alarm went off on Saturday morning and I was immediately exhausted. I never sleep the night before any race, so this one was no different. I had coffee and oatmeal for breakfast, but took some water for my drive since I was pretty sure hydrating at happy hour the night before wasn’t going to be good enough. Home Base honors all the soldiers and their families that have sacrificed their time in war protecting our country. Also, honored are the men and women who lost their life caring for our country. Since I ran alone I asked a random girl to take my picture after and a stranger made a comment about it being a “Facebook/Instagram post” which it, of course, was. That comment kind of put a damper on my whole experience because it felt so negative about sharing your accomplishments. Sure, people don’t have to know every little thing you do, but I had a lot of people text and ask me how my race went.
This event supports our Nation’s Veterans and Service Members while helping to raise much needed funds for Home Base. Participants of this unique Boston fundraising event will end their run with the unforgettable experience of crossing home plate at historic Fenway Park. Home Base proceeds from the event will fund the clinical care provided to Veterans, Service Members and their Families. Like many people and organizations over the past two years, Home Base suffered financially, and we need your help now more than ever.
Thanks to our generous sponsors this year, 100% of every dollar raised will go directly towards the life-saving care provided by Home Base. Run to Home Base, which is presented by New Balance, is the largest fundraiser for the program, which supports veterans, service members and families impacted by "invisible wounds," such as post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries. The Run to Home Base is our most critical, annual fundraiser providing vital funds for the clinical care and support for our Veterans and their Families who are impacted by the invisible wounds of war.

Some races I can seem to do well despite poor choices the night before, and some races totally kick my butt for it. And by the way, we’ll be taking A TON of pictures in Miami so hopefully randoms are prepared for that. Raceentry.com also cannot attest to the validity of individual Run to Home Base reviews. All of the information about the race has either been supplied by the event staff or can be modified at any time by their race management.
Search by team name and make a donation to support a team’s fundraising goals. Whether you run, support a team, or make a gift, you help Home Base provide Veterans, Service Members, and their families with access to life-changing, lifesaving care at no cost. As much as I’m not a huge sports fan, I still like to see cool stuff. We came in behind second base and ran up the length to third to the finish line. There were cameras there so I put on my best “I’m not dying, I’m having a great time!
